Uniondale, NY, Tuesday, April 22, 2025 – On Saturday, April 19, the Dragons held their second and final tryout for the 2025 season.
When asked about his overall thoughts on the tryouts, head coach Gerald Filardi said, “I was very pleased with the turnout, and we got not just a lot of good guys but a lot of good talent. We know there is talent in New York and on Long Island, and we saw that today.” As far as the next
steps are concerned, Filardi said that he and the rest of his coaching staff will finish their evaluations of all the players who tried out. He said that the training camp will start around the middle to end of May, so he expects to have all training camp invites sent to players by the beginning of the month.
Assistant coach Sean Tremblay was also asked about the tryouts, and he said, “Long Island is such an untapped resource for football. It’s not recruited much by the bigger schools, but there is talent here, and these two days of tryouts were a clear indication of that.” The Dragons will invite 26 players to training camp in late May, and then the roster will be cut down to 18 for opening night on June 7th in Danbury. The home opener will be June 14th against New Jersey.
15 players will dress for each game.
